prayer flags fly from the housetops, trees and in mountain passes — wherever the wind can catch and carry their message of hope throughout the world. To share our message of hope, the Breast Cancer Fund has adopted this tradition. Our growing collection of prayer flags is displayed at Breast Cancer Fund events to create a permanent tribute to the hundreds of thousands of people who have been through or are currently facing breast cancer.

We climb mountains to demonstrate how we confront breast cancer: one step at a time with the support of our friends and family, drawing upon our courage as we face our worst fears. Since 1995, breast cancer survivors and supporters have carried flags inscribed with hundreds of names to summits including Mt. Aconcagua, Argentina in 1995; Mt. McKinley, Alaska in 1998; Mt. Fuji, Japan in 2000; Mt. Shasta, California in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007; and Mt. Rainier, Washington in 2005. This June, climbers will once again carry prayer flags to the summit of Mt. Shasta.

In response to the public health crisis of breast cancer, Breast Cancer Fund identifies — and advocates for elimination of — the environmental and other preventable causes of the disease. Founded in 1992, the Breast Cancer Fund works from the knowledge that breast cancer is not simply a personal tragedy, but a public health priority that demands action from all.
